Wanaka

Ah beautiful Wanaka =)

I’d say this is a must visit when going to New Zealand. But first I’ll tell you about our drive there. Our first main stop was Lake Matheson which is also famous for the mountain reflection in the water. Unfortunately we had a foggy and grey day so we didn’t see anything and this was one of the things I really wanted to see, huhu 😦 I had a nice breakfast at the café though so that compensated a bit haha. After that we had a stop at Knights Point Lookout which is on the road and we drove through Mount Aspiring National Park and Haast Pass which was amazing. So beautiful!! I wish we had had more stops here. Our next stops were Lake Wanaka lookout and Lake Hawea Lookout. Again, amazing views! New Zealand is a magical island that takes your breath away all the time.

We arrived to Wanaka in the afternoon but I was way too tired to do anything so I got myself some food and chilled at Base Hostel where I was staying. So, during my travels in New Zealand I did stay in hostels most of the time but of 26 nights I only shared room 5 times so I always got my private ensuite rooms. I wanted to be alone in the evenings as I was with people all the time during the day so that’s why I booked it like this.

Anyway, on the day of departure, so after one night in Wanaka, I had booked a scenic self guided mountain bike tour around Lake Wanaka. We had about 3-4 hours and it was so nice. The surroundings of the lake very stunning and I loved that I could do it in my pace so stop whenever I felt like it. I had to rush at the end though because I wanted to see the famous Wanaka tree haha. It’s actually nothing special but it’s just a thing there 😛 I managed and then hurried to the bus. I almost did of exhaustion at the end haha. Not used to ride a bike for that long but it was great!
